  • Juvenile pubic symphysiodesis (JPS) is a preventive surgery for puppies at risk of hip dysplasia. It alters pelvic growth to improve hip socket fit, helping stabilize the joints and reduce future arthritis.

  • Ketamine (brand name Ketaset®) is an NMDA-receptor antagonist used to facilitate restraint/immobilization and to induce anesthesia for surgical procedures in cats, dogs, rabbits, rodents, birds, reptiles, and other animals. It may also be used for adjunctive pain control for post-surgical or chronic pain. It is labeled for use as a restraint and anesthetic agent in cats – all other uses are off label (extra label). Ketamine comes in an injectable form and is a controlled substance.

  • Ketoconazole otic is an antifungal used in the treatment of external ear infections (otitis externa) caused by yeast in cats, dogs, and other animals. Ketoconazole otic comes in ointment or liquid drop suspension forms that may be specially compounded and/or combined into a formulation with other medications.

  • Ketoconazole topical is an antifungal used in the treatment of skin infections caused by fungal organisms in cats, dogs, and other animals. It comes in a variety of forms that may be specially compounded and/or be combined with other medications.

  • L-theanine (ANXITANE®) is a nutritional supplement used to treat anxiety in dogs and cats. It is an amino acid naturally found in green tea leaves and is available as a chewable tablet.

  • Lactated Ringer’s solution (also known as LRS, Ringer’s Lactate) is a fluid and electrolyte (salts) replacement solution used to correct fluid and electrolyte imbalances in cats, dogs, birds, pocket pets (small mammals), and other animals. Lactated Ringer’s solution comes in injectable form, usually given subcutaneously for at home administration.

  • Leflunomide is an immunomodulating agent used to treat certain immune-mediated conditions in cats and dogs. It is used off label (extra label) in veterinary medicine. Leflunomide comes in a tablet form that may be specially compounded into a liquid. Wear gloves when handling and do not handle if pregnant or nursing.

  • Lidocaine/lidocaine combinations topical are local anesthetics that provide anesthesia (a numbing effect) to the skin in cats, dogs, and other animals. Combination products may contain other local anesthetics, antibiotics or antimicrobials, steroids, antihistamines, and/or cleansing agents.

  • Lime sulfur topical is a leave-on agent used to treat fungal skin infections such as ringworm (dermatophytosis) and topical yeast infections (Malassezia dermatitis) in dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, and horses. Lime sulfur topical can also be useful in the treatment of several species of skin and fur mites and lice.

  • Linezolid is an antibiotic used to treat multi-drug-resistant, gram-positive bacterial infections in cats and dogs. Its use is limited to susceptible infections with documented resistance to other antimicrobials. Its use is off label in veterinary medicine. Linezolid comes in tablet and powder forms that may be compounded into liquid.
