  • Calcium carbonate + chitosan (brand name Epakitin®) is a phosphorus binder and calcium supplement. It is used to treat high blood phosphorus levels in cats and dogs with chronic kidney disease and to treat low blood calcium levels in cats, dogs, and other species.

  • Oral calcium (-carbonate, -gluconate, -lactate) is a phosphorus binder and calcium supplement. It is used to treat high blood phosphorus levels in cats, dogs, and other animals with chronic kidney disease and to treat low blood calcium levels in cats, dogs, and other species. Oral calcium comes in powder, capsule, liquid suspension, and tablet forms.

  • Cannabidiol, also known as CBD, is a naturally occurring cannabinoid (a compound found in the Cannabis plant), which is used as an analgesic (pain reliever) and anticonvulsant. It is used to treat osteoarthritic pain and to help control seizures in dogs and other species. Cannabidiol should only be given under direction of a veterinarian. It is used “off label” or “extra label” in animals.

  • CannaChews are chewable, hemp-based supplements designed to support the overall health of dogs using broad spectrum cannabidiol (CBD). They may help treat digestive problems, anxiety, joint issues, pain, inflammation, epilepsy, and skin diseases.

  • Carbimazole is a medication used to treat an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) in cats and other animals. Carbimazole lowers thyroid hormone levels. Carbimazole comes in tablet form.

  • Carboxymethylcellulose polymer + propylene glycol gel (brand name Intrasite®) is a water-based gel that helps rehydrate wound tissue and helps keep moisture balance to aid in wound healing. This medication comes in a water-based gel form in application packs.

  • Carvedilol is a heart medication that may be prescribed off label in dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and turkeys for the treatment of heart conditions including abnormal heart beat frequencies (arrhythmias) and heart failure due to dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM).

  • Cefadroxil is an antibiotic (first-generation cephalosporin) used to treat bacterial infections of the skin, respiratory tract, and urinary tract in cats and dogs. It may be used off label in other cases. Cefadroxil comes in tablet and powder forms that may be compounded into liquid.

  • Ceramides are naturally occurring lipid (fat) molecules that make up a large portion of the outer skin layer. Ceramide skin care products are available as over-the-counter veterinary products in various topical forms. They are used to help manage skin conditions in dogs, cats, and other animals. Your veterinarian is the best source of information about the safety of non-drug health products in pets.

  • Children often have very close relationships with pets, and especially with dogs. Losing a pet dog is inevitable and may be the child's first experience of death, but there are ways for parents and others to help the child cope with it.
