It is often very valuable for a child to be present during the euthanasia process so that they have a better understanding of their loss. Children learn from their parents how to handle stress and grief. You know your child best and ultimately will make the decision you think is right for them.
Can I use pet insurance?
Many pet insurance plans cover euthanasia for humane reasons and will reimburse you directly for some costs. Check with your insurance provider for more information. While we do not accept direct payment from insurance companies, we are happy to provide the documentation your insurance provider may request for claims you submit.
Is there a toxicity issue with a non-cremated euthanized pet?
Euthanized pet remains are poisonous and possibly deadly to other animals who may ingest it. Buried animals must not come in contact with any surface bodies of water or groundwater. Cremation addresses this hazard. Some jurisdictions prohibit burial altogether. If you are planning a home burial, please see our “Home Burial Information” section on our website’s resource page.

What is cremation?
Cremation is the process of reducing the body to ash and bone particles through the application of direct flame and intense heat (around 800 – 1,000 degrees Celsius). The ashes and remaining bone fragments – collectively known as ‘cremated remains’ or ‘cremains’ – are further processed, resulting in a white/greyish coarse sand-like powder which is poured in a sealed plastic bag placed inside an urn, decorative box, or satin pouch to be safely returned to the family.
Can toys and blankets or other items be cremated with my pet?
Generally, the crematorium we use does not allow this. Blankets that accompany pets to the crematorium are removed just prior to cremation and are donated to a local animal shelter. Please ask your veterinarian about special requests.
Can cremated remains be divided?
Yes, they can. This option is frequently requested by families, siblings, or pet co-owners. There is a fee for additional urns.
If I choose cremation, what happens to my pet immediately after he/she is euthanized?
Pets are held in temporary cold storage for the crematorium to pick up.
